The\nRomanian and Indian peoples share many common features. A quick analysis of the\ntwo peoples (separated by a huge distance) reveals a large number of parallels and\nindirect contacts between them. They have a common origin being Indo-European\npeoples, so their ancient cultural and spiritual background is the same. Across\ncenturies the Indians and the Romanians communicated indirectly through the\nmedium of the Middle Eastern peoples. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some\nIndian myths and legends entered the Romanian folklore indirectly from the\nTurkish and Greek cultures. A very good example is the hagiographic novel Varlaam \u0219i Ioasaf<\/em>, a Christian version\nof the legend of Siddharta Gautama. Through the medium of the Middle Eastern\ncultures, some tales from Pa\u00f1chatantra<\/em>\nwere inserted in the Romanian work \u00cenv\u0103\u021b\u0103turile\nlui Neagoe Basarab c\u0103tre fiul s\u0103u Teodosie<\/em>, as Amita Bhose stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indian professor Amita Bhose traced the links between some of Constantin Br\u00e2ncu\u0219i\u2019 (an internationally renowned Romanian sculptor) works and the Indian symbolism (the endless column<\/em> or the egg<\/em>), setting a parallel between the Romanian and the Indian folklore. Two of the canonical Romanian writers Mihai Eminescu and Mircea Eliade were fascinated by the Indian culture and philosophy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
