That part hasn’t changed. But young people today look
at it in a different way, not like older generations did. Before, it was more like a normal step
that everyone followed. You grow up, you finish school, and then you get married. It was
simple like that. Now it is not that simple anymore.

Young people think more before making this decision. Some of them even delay it for many
years. The first thing that matters for most of them is love. Not pressure, not family decision,
just real personal choice. They want to choose the person they will spend their life with. And
they want to feel something real, not just a formal relationship. If love is not there, many of
them don’t even consider marriage seriously.

But love alone is not enough, and young people know this quite well. Respect becomes very
important here. They want to be respected as individuals. Their ideas, their habits, even their
silence sometimes. Nobody wants to feel controlled or forced in daily life. This is one of the
biggest differences compared to the past. Communication is also a big part of it. Not perfect
communication, but at least honest talking when something is wrong.

Equality is another topic that comes up a lot. It is not fully settled yet, but it is changing. In
older times, roles were more strict. Men worked, women stayed at home, and that was it.
Now things are more mixed. Women want to work, earn their own money, and continue their
own life after marriage. Men also slowly start to accept sharing responsibilities at home. It is
not equal everywhere, but the direction is changing.

Money is something that cannot be ignored. It affects everything. Many young people say
they want to get married, but later, when they think about rent, jobs, and daily expenses, they
wait. Some of them don’t feel ready financially, and that creates delay. It is not only about
love anymore, it is also about stability. Without that, marriage feels risky to them.

Freedom is also very important, maybe more than before. Young people don’t want to lose
their own identity after marriage. They still want their friends, their hobbies, their own time.
They don’t want everything to become “we” and nothing left as “me.” A healthy balance is
what they usually expect, even if they don’t always say it clearly.

Family still matters, of course. But it is not the main decision maker anymore. Families give
opinions, sometimes strongly, but young people decide for themselves. There is respect, but
less control. This is actually a big shift in how things used to be.

Another thing is that young people think more practically now. Before getting married, they
talk about future plans. Children, work, where to live, even small daily habits. These
conversations used to happen after marriage, but now they happen before. Sometimes it feels
a bit serious, but it helps them understand each other better.

In the end, marriage is still there, but it is not the only life goal anymore. Some young
people want careers first, some want to travel, some just want time to figure things out. And
yes, some are unsure about marriage completely. That uncertainty is more common now.
So overall, young people in Turkey expect love, respect, and stability from marriage, but at
the same time they want freedom too. Marriage is still meaningful for them, but the meaning
is not fixed anymore. It is changing slowly, with them.

Marriage is still important in Turkey.
