Tea (çay) has a very special and deep-rooted importance in Turkish culture, far beyond being just a drink. In Türkiye, tea is a symbol of hospitality, friendship, and daily life. It is offered to guests at homes, shops, offices, and even during business meetings as a sign of welcome and respect. Sharing tea creates a warm and sincere atmosphere, making conversations longer and relationships stronger. For many people, the day starts with tea and continues with several glasses throughout the day. Tea is also a social bridge: people gather in tea houses, at home, or at work to talk, discuss, and relax while drinking tea. The small tulip-shaped glass has become a cultural icon representing simplicity and togetherness. In Turkish culture, offering tea is not just politeness; it is a way of saying, “You are welcome, you are valued, and you are not a stranger.” In this way, tea plays an essential role in both daily routines and social life.
